How an Electric Fence Works

The Electric fence energiser converts 220v mains or battery power into a high voltage pulse. The energiser releases this pulse onto an insulated fence line about every second. This pulse is +- 150 microseconds long. It is this pulse which is commonly refered to as “the shock” that is felt by the person touching the electrified fence. When a person touches or makes contact with the fence the circuit is complete and the person receives the shock.

When any resistance is measured on the fence, besides “the shock”, a audible siren is activated and a strobelight starts flashing to attract attention. Electric fences can also be connected to Existing alarm systems and Arm Response companies.
